The Ordinariate for the Faithful of the Eastern Rite in Romania was established by His Holiness Pope Pius XI on 5 June 1930. It is the only Armenian Catholic diocese in Romania. The position of ordinary has been vacant since the ordinarite's creation. The current apostolic administrator is Archbishop György-Miklós Jakubínyi, who took on this role since 1991; he is also the Archbishop of Alba Julia. There are currently 515 Armenian Catholics in the ordinariate and 2 diocesan priests.
