This category describes the history of the modern State of Israel, from its Independence Proclamation in 1948 to the present.
The independence of the modern State of Israel was achieved in 1948 after more than sixty years of efforts by Zionist leaders to establish sovereignty and self-determination in the Jewish National Homeland, and as such, entries referring to Zionism before 1948 are in the subcategory Category:Zionism. Events in Jewish history preceding the modern Zionist movement belong in Category:Land of Israel.
