Classical Tamil

Reference to a "Classical" Tamil language may have two unrelated meanings:
- in mainstream Dravidology, Classical Tamil is the language of the Sangam literature (ca. 3rd c. BC to 3rd c. AD).
- in Tamil linguistic activism, the Tamil language as a whole is claimed as the "Primary Classical Language of the World",
