[edit] Emsdetten school shooting

Geschwister Scholl School attack
Location Flag of Germany Emsdetten, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
Date 20 November 2006
9:30 AM (UTC+1)
Attack type School shooting
Weapon(s) Sawn-off rifles
Deaths 1 (the perpetrator)
Injured 8
Perpetrator(s) Bastian Bosse

On 20 November 2006, at about 9:30 AM local time, an 18 year old former student (Bastian Bosse) graduate of 2005, entered the Geschwister Scholl School (a Realschule), firing several shots and setting off smoke grenades. 8 people were injured. He was later found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. He had left an Internet posting and a video message from his parents' living room shortly before the attack. The shooter stated that he hated people and was taught to be a "loser" at his school.[1][2] He also left a suicide note on his website, which is now deleted.[3]

The event caused renewed demands for a prohibition of violent video games (called "Killerspiele", "killing games", by the German media and politicians) in Germany,[4] since police determined that Bosse "spent most of his waking hours"[5] playing a violent video game, Counter-Strike.[6]
