Eurowings Luftverkehrs AG is an airline based in Dortmund, Germany.[1] It is a regional airline, part of Lufthansa Regional, operating scheduled domestic and regional services for Lufthansa. The headquarter is located at Dortmund Airport, but hubs are Düsseldorf International Airport, Nuremberg Airport, Munich International Airport and Hanover Airport. On 29 January 2008, plans were announced to merge low-cost airline operations of Deutsche Lufthansa AG and TUI Travel PLC (Germanwings, Eurowings, TUIfly) into a joint and independent holding company.[2]

The airline was established in 1992 and started operations on 1 January 1994. It was formed by the merger of NFD Luftverkehrs AG of Nuremberg (founded in 1975) and RFG Regionalflug of Dortmund (founded in 1976). As at 31 December 2006, Lufthansa had a 49% shareholding in Eurowings, bringing the company into the Lufthansa Group fold. Lufthansa have a call option for a further 50.91%. [3] It wholly owns subsidiary airline, Germanwings.

Eurowings operates the following services (at January 2009):[citation needed]
- Domestic scheduled destinations: Berlin, Bremen, Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Friedrichshafen, Hamburg, Hanover, Leipzig/Halle, Munich, Münster, Nuremberg, Paderborn and Stuttgart.
- International scheduled destinations: Amsterdam, Basel/Mulhouse, Birmingham, Bologna, Bristol, Brussels, Bucharest, Budapest, Copenhagen, Geneva, Gothenburg, Graz, London City, London Heathrow, Lyon, Madrid, Manchester, Milan, Newquay (seasonal), Newcastle, Paris, Prague, Turin, Vienna, Warsaw, Wrocław, Zagreb and Zürich.

In January 2009, the Eurowings average fleet age was 12.0 years.[5]
The BAe 146 fleet is planned to be replaced by Bombardier CRJ-900 during 2009/2010.[6]
