Orenburg (also given as Orenburg Southwest) is a military airlift base in Russia located 9 km southwest of Orenburg. It has a large tarmac and revetments for 35 large transports.
This is sometimes erroneously referred to as Chalovskiy Airport. [1].
During the Cold War it was home to:
- 128 Gv TAD (128th Guards Military Transport Air Division) flying Ilyushin Il-76M aircraft starting in 1992.
- 117 OVTAP (117th Independent Military Transport Aviation Regiment) flying Ilyushin Il-76 and Antonov An-12 aircraft [1] [2].
