The Vietnamese Wikipedia (Vietnamese: Wikipedia tiếng Việt) is the Vietnamese language edition of Wikipedia, a free and publicly editable online encyclopedia. The wiki initially went online in November 2002, but did not begin to receive significant contributions until being "restarted" in October 2003.[1] As of August 2008, it has more than 50,000 articles – a milestone it achieved on August 26 – with at least 432 of which were created by bots.[2] The project is fairly unusual among Wikipedia's major language editions for having significantly more registered users than articles, although it is currently in a period of rapid growth.[1]
The Vietnamese Wikipedia uses AVIM, a JavaScript-based input method that allows the user to type accented Vietnamese text in popular input methods, such as Telex and VIQR. The preferred input system can be selected using a box under the sidebar.[3]
One of the Vietnamese Wikipedia's competitors is the Encyclopedia of Vietnam (Từ điển bách khoa Việt Nam), an encyclopedic dictionary also available online.
