Past meetups

How about having a meetup for editors of the English Wikipedia in Finland in the near future? Thoughts and ideas (where and when)? Possible participants? --KFP (talk | contribs) 11:30, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Count me in. -- Cimon Avaro; on a pogostick. (talk) 15:14, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
A great idea!! I will definitely attend! If no other suitable place will turn up, what about Suvikuja 4 in Tapiola? --Tellervo (talk) 16:53, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
If it's held between eastern Espoo and central Helsinki then I'm interested. JIP | Talk 19:29, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
My, aren't you picky! :) Anyway, yeah, I guess I could come if the time isn't bad for me. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 15:57, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Hmm. I believe central Helsinki would be the easiest to reach for most and is the most versatile area. A restaurant, perhaps? --KFP (talk | contribs) 17:37, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

  • What about either of two cafe´s in central Helsinki close to the Esplanadi: Cafe´Strindberg or Cafe´Fazer? Are they maybe too small? I know very little about restaurants in central Helsinki,
  • so I leave it to others to propose. --Tellervo (talk) *11:39, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
  • I could stop by if it's on a weekend, but I'd likely end up getting drunk and rambling about deletionists. --Kizor (talk) 05:42, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Hehe, that's ok with me, at least. --KFP (talk | contribs) 17:57, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
And me, too! --Tellervo (talk) 11:47, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Soo... Having the meetup on a weekend would seem to be the best option. Which one? Also, would you prefer a café, a restaurant or a pub or something else? --KFP (talk | contribs) 18:00, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Just as a note, there are at the very least three Irish Pubs within very short walking distance from the railway station. Kitty O'Sheas, Dubliners and Molly Malones, with Molly Malones being the oldest one, but is usually rather well filled due to that fact. If we are meeting early in the day and/or middle of the week, Kitty O'Sheas is likely secluded enough, as to be very quiet, and conducive to discussion, but would necessitate meeting at some central point beforehand, as finding there is half the trick. A good midway solution would be the Dubliners, as it is easy enough to find, and it has recesses that are fairly nicely private. That said, a good cafe would be nice, but I don't know any such near the center. All the ones I know are types that I find somehow un-cosy, too busy for my taste (I don't mind a little life around me if I have beer in front of me, but with a cup of coffee it is a bit different, would much prefer a placid environs). -- Cimon Avaro; on a pogostick. (talk) 21:10, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
  • A quiet café or bar sounds good to me. Have we ruled Kallio outside the target zone already? There are several quite nice places in that area, including some that serve both decent coffee and beer. How many people are we expecting, anyway? Nice and cozy cafés often tend to be rather small. :( —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 04:52, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Well, I live in Merihaka, so that clearly would be convenient for me personally. Not sure which particular places you had in mind. Good coffee is pretty much the thing to go for if we choose a venue in the Kallio-Hakaniemi-Sörnäinen triangle. -- Cimon Avaro; on a pogostick. (talk) 08:28, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Note, if we do decide on Kallio region, and meet on a saturday or monday, we might go for "jatkot" at Kallion Seurahovi. They have a pub quiz there on those evenings, with pretty okay prizes. Would be curious to see how well a team of wikipedians would fare against the regulars. -- Cimon Avaro; on a pogostick. (talk) 16:36, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
  • I would suggest a nice, small restaurant in Punavuori [Tori]. It ought to be easily accessible from Merihaka and even Espoo.-- Tellervo (talk) 18:05, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
  • Anytime is pretty much fine, but not the end of this month. [[1]] is pretty quiet during the day, but gets louder as each hour goes by. Usually has good music in the evenings. Anyplace is fine though :) -Yupik (talk) 03:50, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Let's talk about when

How soon should we meet? We have a voting procedure called median voting, that is used on Finnish wikipedia, where something has to be decided from within a certain range. It works as follows: people will add their signature in a numbered list with each voters entry being inserted in order of where the value they are voting for slots. So what we end up with is a list where the votes are sorted from lowest to highest, and numbered. The "median vote" is then picked as the winning value by looking at what the highest values numbering is and picking the midpoint numbered votes actual value as the result of the vote.

I'll give an example below, which might be a vote for which week we are going to meet on... So as to ground it in what I am actually proposing we vote for.

  1. Week no. 14 <signature>
  2. Week no. 16 <signature>
  3. Week no. 18 <signature>

In the above example, as there are three votes, the median would be vote number 2. which happens to be a vote for Week number 16. Which would then be the result of the vote.

So add your votes below, suggesting what week we should meet. And remember to place your suggestion in the correct order with earliest suggestions first and later ones below them in ascending order:

  1. Week no. 15. (to give time for people to vote here, and to at long last come to a decision about the meeting venue - an approval vote for suggested cafes/bars, perhaps?) -- Cimon Avaro; on a pogostick. (talk) 09:09, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
